Rijeka i Opatija

Students, teachers and us volunteers decidedly set off on our way to Rijeka and Opatija. Early in the morning we gathered at the Fair in buses, some were late, we will not name them. After we picked up the late passengers, it was time to head towards our destination in Fužine. Fužine was a short stop, but we drank good coffee. After some more driving and singing from the back of the bus, we arrived in Trsat. Trsat was beautiful and we saw a beautiful old fortress and a church that delighted us with its beautiful gardens. The river followed after that. The river was beautiful and miraculously dry (there was no known river rain). We walked around the city, some visited museums, we had a good time and enjoyed the beautiful day. After a short drive, it was Opatija's turn. Along with the most expensive coffee in the world, there is also the very famous most expensive ice cream in the world, the one in Venice is not even close to it, but €2 will come out of your pocket anyway, so why not. Opatija was warm, enough for some students to throw themselves into the sea and for me to get hit by a wave and find new white tennis shoes. If you thought that this was the case only here, it is not. As an unwritten rule, every time you come to Opatija you have to throw yourself into the sea. Poseidon thanks our students and my tennis shoes and hopes that we enjoyed ourselves. We enjoyed it because when it was over and time to leave, he fell hard. The bus was calmer, the students more tired and the professors more cheerful headed back towards Zagreb. The journey was beautiful and we as volunteers enjoyed this beautiful journey. May it happen again.
